The Leeds Tradesperson’s Website Checklist: 12 Things Your Site Needs

Whether you’re a roofer in Morley, a window cleaner in Horsforth or a mobile mechanic covering the whole of West Yorkshire, your website has one job: turn people searching on Google into paying customers. Use this checklist to see how your site measures up — and what to fix first.

In short: Customers judge a trade in seconds. Your site needs to be fast on mobile, make calling you effortless, prove you’re trustworthy and show up for the towns you cover.

The 12-point trade website checklist

1. A tap-to-call button that’s always visible

Most people looking for a trade are on their phone. A big, sticky call button means they can ring you in one tap, from any page.

2. Your service area, clearly stated

Say exactly where you work — “Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and surrounding areas” — near the top of the homepage. Nobody wants to call only to find you don’t cover them.

3. A page for each main service

Separate pages for each job type (e.g. driveway cleaning, roof cleaning, gutter clearing) help you rank for each and let customers find exactly what they need.

4. Town landing pages

Dedicated, unique pages for the towns and neighbourhoods you cover — Headingley, Roundhay, Pudsey, Otley — help you appear when people search by location.

5. Real photos of your work

Before-and-after photos sell trades better than any copy. Stock images do the opposite — customers can tell.

6. Reviews front and centre

Show your Google reviews on the homepage and service pages. Social proof answers the question “can I trust this person in my home?”

7. Accreditations and awards

Trade body memberships, certifications and awards build confidence instantly. On Dirt Busters we display their awards right on the homepage.

8. A short, simple quote form

Name, number, postcode, job type, optional photo. Long forms kill enquiries.

9. Fast loading on mobile

Slow sites lose visitors and rankings. Compress images, use quality hosting and keep pages lean.

10. A professional email address

info@yourbusiness.co.uk looks established. A free webmail address can make customers hesitate.

11. Proper SEO basics on every page

A unique SEO title and meta description, one clear H1 with your service and town, descriptive image alt text and internal links. Tools like Yoast SEO make this manageable.

12. Something new, regularly

Blog posts, new area pages, recent job photos. A site that’s updated regularly gives Google more to index and customers more reasons to trust you.

How does your site score?

ScoreWhat it means
10–12Great foundations — focus on content and more town pages.
6–9Decent, but you’re likely missing jobs to competitors.
0–5Your website is probably costing you work. Time for a rebuild.
